vs NYP (200806)

We finally got the stroke of luck we needed after all the bad results and the inability to score despite dominating. Temasek was handed an unexpected boost when only 8 NYP players turned up. That's right, e-i-g-h-t. 8. Still, it was not as easy as it seemed. NYP packed their defence well and were just looking to keep the score down. Playing with a counter-attacking mentality, NYP did force some nervous moments in the Temasek defence. However, Shaik was impregnable the whole night, and it was unfortunate that the only mistake he made was punished.

Our next game is this sunday at 0930am at CCAB, Temasek vs NYP

vs SCC (130806)

We threw it away.
bottomline.

After many weeks, we had one of the most strongest teams present. Coach, Zarir, Uncle Edwin, Uncle Teng, Azri, Robin n even Temasek legend Neil foo was in the team. Yet we lost. 2-1.

The first half started promisingly with Temasek causing constant menace to the SCC rearguard. We earned a few short corners early on and were breaking up the SCC attacks and holding out against their midfielders n Ang mohs. Our newest recruit, Marick somehow got the ball to Neil in the D and he let fly with a shot which flew in. 1-0 temasek. So much promise. So much enterprise. We continued bombarding the SCC goal but could not get the killer goal we needed.

The second half started in pretty much the same way. Temasek attacking on the counter n trying our very best to finish off the game. Suddenly, as though someone had cursed us, we conceded another shot corner for SCC. Flick from top D. Uncle Teng was beaten but Azri being the postman tried his very best to deflect the flick but alas, the ball hit his knee instead.

Penalty stroke. 1-1.

Then, the physical games began. Fouls were aplenty and there were numerous opposition players on the ground. Play acting perhaps but that's no excuse. Frustration was creeping in. Temasek continued it's long ball strategy n tried again. Our rotten luck resurfaced when another short corner was conceded. Another flick. This one was pretty tame but somehow it eluded everyone and squeezed its way into the bottom corner. What cruelty! 2-1 SCC!

Temasek immediately piled on the pressure and bombarded the SCC defence with hits into their D. Unfortunately, no ball broke loose to a Temasek player. There was even a disallowed goal for Neil as the umpire judged the ball was risen. The Temasek players as well as SCC players knowing victory was on hand, got into minor squabbles and this further distracted the player's performance. The final whistle signalled another significant defeat for us and this makes the upcoming games even more crucial.

Let's keep our heads together and stride on. We have to end our current run of bad form. Starting this sunday against NYP. Let's make our season a worthwhile one. Not one of what if....

Singapore International Tournament

Please do go down to delta to watch some of the action. Went down to watch Singapore (the under 21 team with ian vanderpurt) vs India (the under 18 team) today. You can see how they move the ball instead of always bursting thru..yeah so please do go down cos we have no games this weekend. Some of the players in the Singapore team are the same ones we have played against..yeah..so it will be fun..haha.

vs OVA (300706)

Sigh. We were on top and we couldn't score. Story of our season.

Final score was 1-0. We let in a comical early goal from a short corner that shouldn't have been given. Teng blundered when he missed the ball completely and the ball was scrambled in. Still, we weren't shaken, and we pressed on in search of the equalizer. We're still searching. Some wasteful touches from Manish "Mr Versatile" Nandwani and an alert left postman kept us from scoring in a match we should have comfortably won. But hey, long way to go yet this season. We dun have to top the league, just qualify and win the playoffs. Sounds easy ya. And we got to keep the team together, with prelims coming up and all. Veera and Fang Hao, come back if you both can. Neil too. And hopr that Edwin and Zarir recover. And coach gets a favourable schedule. And Huzer cuts his hair, loses weight and gets fitter though he has shown signs of improvement.

Special mentions:
Mervyn - Wins the NSMotMA for an imperious performance at the back. He was well covered by Shaik who looks like a tremendous find. Just hope Shaik doesn't end up like Titus Bramble.
Shaik - For reasons outlined above
Robin - Could've been the MotM if not for Mervyn. Dropped deep to pick up the ball. More effective in midfield than attack though. Switched positions well with Jigar (though unintentional)
Azri and Junren - For sacrificing hockey to serve our dear nation
