We fell short at the last hurdle but we exceeded everyone's expectations last season.. Although there was muted celebrations on that day, if we just look back at the season and how we even made it to delta is another achievement by itself.. So i guess it's time to stop dwelling on the past n look forward to the future..

This season has started with another shocker...we dint get promoted...yeah...so no Temasek team by itself...however we've managed to participate in the league this year with another team.. Strongchem shru... Shru...an ideal name for us i guess...The start or the beginning whichever way u look at it.. So it's gonna be Div 1 this year and it's gonna be a hell of a season...tougher opponents...bigger opponents...but with the experience of the veterans in the strongchem team..i'm sure this collaboration with temasek will work...it might take a while...but this may just be the start of something special...season started yest but we'll start our games on the 4th of aug against scc at 330pm at ccab...

As for the players involved..it's the majority of last yr's team despite some notable absentees...Manish our keeper has called it quits as well as Azri, our centreback..it's a shame really cos they contributed a huge deal to our efforts last year.. however on a high note..we have managed to get the original Temasek pin up boy Neil to play for us this year...haha...just kiddin about the pin up thing but he will definitely add an attacking dimension to our game... beep test coming up soon..need to attain Level 9 if we r to participate.. NYP 6-a side tourny coming up this sat..the hockey season is just getting started...

It's coming...

MEN'S DIV 3 FINAL: TEMASEK VS ORA JNRS

Saturday 14th October

3pm

DELTA STADIUM

You can just sense it now. 4 more days to the final. Temasek Hockey has entered the final of the Singapore Hockey Federation Div 3 Promotion Final.. Power.. And what a game to bring us to the final... After a bad game by Man U the previous day.. haha.. 4-3.... Temasek took the lead FOUR Times.. I cant forget the jubilation and joy on hearing the final whistle.. and the Tornadoes slammin their sticks on the floor.. Coach Nirmal shouting and screaming away.. all the young kids went after him and hugged him like disciples to their master.. it was indeed a grand show by the coach.. I as a keeper made few impt saves yet conceded 3 goals.. so somethings to improve on.. but still crucial saves.. what a game..it was pure unbridled chaos and pandaemonium!! what a game!! Flash points....

Game started with veera on the sub bench and huzer still wearin his shin pads.. game goes on

short corner to Temasek.. Coach Nirmal hits it straight at the keepers pads.. and his second swipe crushed the defenders hands.. so foul.. that was the chance gone..

short corner to tornadoes due to some silly mistake... drag flick by malaysian who a real menace the whole game.. to the referee as well as the team Temasek.. Drag flick saved by Keeper Manish.. first save of the game.. power!!

next short corner to Temasek.. Nirmal hits and scores.. 1 nil to Temasek...

short corner to Tornadoes.. Drag flick taken by Malaysian.. and goal.. Keeper was caught out to the ball being unsighted and sheer pace of the ball... 1-1...

short corner to temasek.. zarir stops out of coach's range.. he improvises and sweeps the ball in for a 2-1....Half time.. with a green card to malaysian.. one of our best halfs ever played in TEmasek jerseys...

Second half starts with poor defensive clearance by Coach.. he is dispossessed.. Striker runs straight towards to Keeper Manish.. squares the ball.. deflects of Keeper's Pads... yet Malaysian is there for the rebound...2-2...
Moment of the game.. Marrick with ball with stick in the D.. Keeper comes chargin out all guns blazin ready to destroy anythin in its path.. and what did he do.. Simply uncalled for.. Unforgivable.. cannonballed into marrick and the defender.. Flick.. Azri steps and scores agst the inadequately padded up stand in keeper... Power..3-2...

Next is a series of events that simply show the unpredictability of Temasek.. Jigar got a lambastin from Coach Nirmal for stealin his ball.. Jigar turns away.. and smiles.. Nirmal is pissed and calls his name again.. Now he acknowledges his mistake and moves on a jinkin run aka Moritz Volz style.. almost ends in a goal..another short corner to Tornadoes.. This time around Azri makes a goal line save.. Power to Azri.. Then another moment.. Ball comes Flyin to the post.. Keeper makes a deflected save.. yet the follow up hits azri.. and its a flick!!!!... Up stands Malaysian zooms the ball to the right.. 3-3... Temasek cant believe their luck.. Final Whistle.. Golden goal is next....

Marrick is out.. Teck Gin is out.. Huzer is out of gas... Nirmal has a twisted ankle and bloody fingers..Robin has a sore chin.. Jigar got elbowed.. Manish is wondering what will happen if it goes to flicks again.. Booom!!!!!!! Nirmal from a set piece intelligently set up by Right back jigar.. Takes a swipe.. Ball deflects of a Tornadoes player and into the far post!!! That was it to spark a roar of simply unimaginable joy and orgasm!!!!! It was purely pure.. it was humungous.. it was simply out of this world.. it was worth playing for.. it was worth it.. it was just simply Temasek... 4-3 to Temasek!!! Tornadoes the league leaders are out.....

Oct 14th at the Delta Stadium.. Be there or miss out on the greatest final in TEmasek History... TTTTTTTTTTEeeeeeeemmmmmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hallelujah gentlemen

Great news!! ORA has beaten SCC 2-1.
Which means Temasek Hockey is in the SEMIS!! Good news delivered by Marick via Ahmad. After last week's encounter draw with ORA and Khalsa's shock loss to SCC, we had ended up in a very unenviable position. That of hoping for results of other games to go our way.It did fortunately and now we play again. We'll be playing arch-nemesis Tornados. Going back earlier in the season, you would recall that we lost the first game by 2 goals and drew the second with one a piece. Now we're playing them a third time.
They are a strong team; sitting pretty on top of the table with 34 points. They now have a superb Malaysian forward who is mostly behind all the large Tornados scorelines of late. Their shot corners are sharp and they will be ready to punish any mistakes we make. That being said, they are still a Div 3 hockey team. And the Malaysian player, though fantastic, is simply just a man. And any man can be beaten if you just know how. Tornados is beatable as has been shown by Khalsa and NYP. Heck, any team is beatable. We got to keep things in prespective, play our game hard and things will follow. We have a great team as well.
Why do I say that? The mark of a great team is when you don't have key players around and are still able to produce results. That, we have done, many many times this season.Believe in yourself gentlemen, and we shall prevail. Glory to Temasek Hockey!!

-veera

vs ORA Jnrs (100906)

We played so much better in this game. The return of Veera prompted the Temasek players to take their warm up much more seriously and the sight of the players actually running and stretching together brought back memories.. haha. Anyway, this was a crucial game and if we could win this, we would be assured of a place in the semis irregardless of the SCC's results. Prior to our game, we realised the importance of our result against ORA cos of the shock defeat of Khalsa to SCC.
The game started smoothly for Temasek as they were able to press down and pin ORA in their own half. A number of balls were sent into the D looking for deflections and one was duly converted in the 1st few exchanges. The Temasek players were playing with self-belief. Passing had much improved from the Khalsa game. Half-time. 1-0 to Temasek.
Second half. ORA jnrs knew they needed to be at their best to snatch anything from this game. Unfortunately, Temasek's horrific man-marking on a long corner resulted in an easy tap in at the far post for the ORA forward. 1-1. Manish was having the game of his life as his unorthodox saves were keeping Temasek in the game. An incredible Matrix style save when he managed to get a hand to a definite goal was the highlight of the game. Temasek rallied and pushed further up looking for an opportunity and it duly arrived when Fang Hao cut in from the left into the D and squared the ball for a grateful Temasek player to tap in. 2-1. This was it. We just had to hang on. The cheers from the bench signified how much this goal meant to us. We had one foot in the semis. But as you all know by now, ORA jnrs somehow managed to get their equaliser late on. 2-2 it finished and our hopes rest in ORA's result against SCC.
Special thanks to Uncle Edwin, Veera and Manish who put in superb individual performances. Uncle Edwin's run from the centre of defence to the opponent's D was simply out of this world as well as the unforgettable save by Manish to deny a clear goal.

vs Khalsa(030906)

The season is almost coming to an end. This match was predictably gonna be a difficult one as the opposition was definitely a notch higher both in terms of gameplay knowledge and ball skills.
The young players of Khalsa started the game keen on avenging their narrow loss earlier in the season. They immediately pressed forward with a 1-3-3-3 formation utilising the space on the flanks.

Missing Zarir's determination and physical presence, Temasek were continuously on the backfoot and it seemed as though route 1 hockey was the only option left to break into Khalsa's D. Coach nirmal did present Uncle Teck Jin with a few half chances but we were unable to convert. Not suprisingly, Khalsa scored soon after. Half-time. 1-0 to Khalsa.

Another team talk inspired Temasek n we were back on level terms when Coach's free hit from top d was deflected in by Marick. 1-1. We were back in contention. The game continued for another 15 mins with Khalsa unable to capitalise with numerous attempts flying off. Temasek was doing her very best to defend but alas, another break on the right presented the Khalsa forward with a glorious chance n he did not disappoint as the Temasek players shook their head in frustration. This proved to be almighty blow for the Temasek players as they crumbled under pressure to another 2 goals, although we could be said we were hard done by the umpire who clearly allowed a goal from a short corner which was stopped in the d. Final whistle. A convincing 4-1 defeat to Khalsa.

On a side note, Coach Nirmal was also involved in an unnecessary skirmish with the umpire as he let his frustrations out in the open. It was painful lesson for the Temasek players whose hopes now lie in the next and final game against ORA juniors. With SCC hot on their heels, it proves to be another exciting weekend of hockey we can look forward to.
If Khalsa manages to thrash SCC, we will more or less be guaranteed irregardless of our final game as SCC would have to thrash ORA by double digits to even stand a remote chance. Huzer is suspended for the next game due to his picking up of too many greens. On a higher note though, Veera will be back for our final game after the doc cleared him to play. So come on guys, lets' step up a gear and improve from our last game and finish the season with a semi to look forward to.

vs Nomads-TPJC(270806)

was not around so can't really give much on match analysis. Yeah. But this convincing 4-0 wacking of our old rivals was a much needed morale-booster and gave our team another crucial 3 pts to continue our quest in our debut season to get to the semis. Manish hardly touched the ball in goal and goals from Marick, Zarir, and i believe Jason as well decided the game for us. In hindsight, this might just have been the game that separated us from SCC in the league standings.

vs NYP (200806)

We finally got the stroke of luck we needed after all the bad results and the inability to score despite dominating. Temasek was handed an unexpected boost when only 8 NYP players turned up. That's right, e-i-g-h-t. 8. Still, it was not as easy as it seemed. NYP packed their defence well and were just looking to keep the score down. Playing with a counter-attacking mentality, NYP did force some nervous moments in the Temasek defence. However, Shaik was impregnable the whole night, and it was unfortunate that the only mistake he made was punished.
vs SCC (130806)

We threw it away.
bottomline.

After many weeks, we had one of the most strongest teams present. Coach, Zarir, Uncle Edwin, Uncle Teng, Azri, Robin n even Temasek legend Neil foo was in the team. Yet we lost. 2-1.

The first half started promisingly with Temasek causing constant menace to the SCC rearguard. We earned a few short corners early on and were breaking up the SCC attacks and holding out against their midfielders n Ang mohs. Our newest recruit, Marick somehow got the ball to Neil in the D and he let fly with a shot which flew in. 1-0 temasek. So much promise. So much enterprise. We continued bombarding the SCC goal but could not get the killer goal we needed.

The second half started in pretty much the same way. Temasek attacking on the counter n trying our very best to finish off the game. Suddenly, as though someone had cursed us, we conceded another shot corner for SCC. Flick from top D. Uncle Teng was beaten but Azri being the postman tried his very best to deflect the flick but alas, the ball hit his knee instead.

Penalty stroke. 1-1.

Then, the physical games began. Fouls were aplenty and there were numerous opposition players on the ground. Play acting perhaps but that's no excuse. Frustration was creeping in. Temasek continued it's long ball strategy n tried again. Our rotten luck resurfaced when another short corner was conceded. Another flick. This one was pretty tame but somehow it eluded everyone and squeezed its way into the bottom corner. What cruelty! 2-1 SCC!

Temasek immediately piled on the pressure and bombarded the SCC defence with hits into their D. Unfortunately, no ball broke loose to a Temasek player. There was even a disallowed goal for Neil as the umpire judged the ball was risen. The Temasek players as well as SCC players knowing victory was on hand, got into minor squabbles and this further distracted the player's performance. The final whistle signalled another significant defeat for us and this makes the upcoming games even more crucial.

Let's keep our heads together and stride on. We have to end our current run of bad form. Starting this sunday against NYP. Let's make our season a worthwhile one. We were on top and we couldn't score. Story of our season.

Final score was 1-0. We let in a comical early goal from a short corner that shouldn't have been given. Teng blundered when he missed the ball completely and the ball was scrambled in. Still, we weren't shaken, and we pressed on in search of the equalizer. We're still searching. Some wasteful touches from Manish "Mr Versatile" Nandwani and an alert left postman kept us from scoring in a match we should have comfortably won. But hey, long way to go yet this season. We dun have to top the league, just qualify and win the playoffs. Sounds easy ya. And we got to keep the team together, with prelims coming up and all. Veera and Fang Hao, come back if you both can. Neil too. And hopr that Edwin and Zarir recover. And coach gets a favourable schedule. And Huzer cuts his hair, loses weight and gets fitter though he has shown signs of improvement.

Special mentions:
Mervyn - Wins the NSMotMA for an imperious performance at the back. He was well covered by Shaik who looks like a tremendous find. Just hope Shaik doesn't end up like Titus Bramble.
Shaik - For reasons outlined above
Robin - Could've been the MotM if not for Mervyn. Dropped deep to pick up the ball. More effective in midfield than attack though. The past couple of weeks have been very distracting for me, and after 2 shite games, it's time to get our campaign back on track. I've finally got my mind back where it should be, and hopefully attending the trainings at TJ will mean my hits and sweeps are controllable. We'll see how it goes ya. To be fair, we haven't done too badly. We beat Khalsa, lost to ORA and drew with Tornados. I expected 3 points from this series of games, but we got 4. And the 3-8 vs ORA was a good wake up call. We seemed to be getting complacent, thinking no matter how badly we played we would always force a result. But the scoreline was harsh on us. Anyone watching knew that 5-8 or 7-8 was a fairer reflection of the match. No doubt we deserved to lose, but we know now that ORA is not out of reach. After all, half our team is ORA too. hahaha. So anyway, if coach can rediscover his hitting, Zarir and Edwin can stay fit and start scoring again, and Jigar and I can get our act together, we'll be sure as hell formidable. And there was a previous comment that our team has to change a few players. I totally disagree. I'm proud of the players we have, and i have no doubts over their ability. There is not 1 player who did not deserve to play for us, and it's unfortunate we all have to share playing time. See you guys tomorrow then. Lets get our campaign back on track.

-huzer

vs Tornadoes (230706)

The game started with temasek immediately on the backfoot as Tornadoes surged forward. With one of their strikers playing high upfront and his runs to the sidelines, Temasek were pressed back and this resulted in 3 quick short corners being awarded for Tornadoes. Fortunately it did not work out. Temasek players were starting to get agitated n frustration seemed to set in as the female umpire constantly blew against us. A run down the left by James resulted in Jigar blocking his attempted cross albeit with a whack in his knee. This proved to be significant as in their next attack with Jigar hobbling, an unmarked Tornadoes midfield player was on hand to smash in a loose ball to give them the lead. 1-0 to tornadoes.
The second half started with renewed belief for the Temasek players. Closing down our opponents higher up on the pitch, there was an increase in tempo from the Temasek players. Quick thinking by coach resulted in a short corner being awarded for Temasek which Coach immediately capitalised on after missing a few in the 1st half. Robin was lurking just in front of the keeper to pounce and crack in the equaliser. The match took another spin as Tornadoes scored from another short corner.
Furious protests from the Temasek players resulted as there had been a player who was crossing as the ball was hit. The umpire on the near side was forced to consult the other and he subsequently changed his decision and awarded a 16 yrd hit for Temasek. James n crew were incensed and promised to report this to SHF. But Temasek escaped again. Just like the NYP game! Temasek were given another short corner as the final whistle was blown and all the players rushed to the opponents half. As Coach hit the ball, Zarir tried to slap hit it in but alas, the Temasek players were unable to capitalise n the Tornadoes keeper cleared.
1-1 at the final whistle but this is an improvement from our 2-0 loss earlier in the season.

Special mentions

Coach Nirmal: His presence ensured the scores were down and his short corners have enabled us to come this far.
Uncle Teng: His one handed save from a deflection was enough to erase the earlier confusion on letting the ball go only to kena the tiang. Haha. Hilarious moment.
Azri: The return of our centreback ensured a much more solid backline. Another solid performance
Uncle Edwin: Was unfortunately injured for this game but special thanks to him for delivering the keeper pads. Thanks.
Robin: Another goal which keeps up the pressure at the top of the table

Special Note

Veera might be playing in the next game..although unconfirmed reports say that is only a 50% chance..

Match Review (vs ORA)

Bottomlime: We lost 8-3
ORA: played a simple, fluid and pacy game of hockey. at times they were like knives through our "butter" defence.. cuttin at will..

Temasek: We played a stop start game of good hockey.. We were dead and buried at halftime cos Khalsa seemed to be getting into their stride but somehow we managed to rise from the dead and delivered two killer blows..It was definitely our toughest win so far but we can be proud of our 3-2 victory.

The game was again started in controversial circumstances cos it seems like everyone likes to come late for games. Perhaps this was excusable considerin the timin of the game and the World Cup but it did mean our 1st team was not really prepared to start the game. Despite this, we managed to score first against Khalsa when a mistimed hit from Jigar somehow found it's way into our opponent's D and Edwin was on hand to blast home a shock opener. And this was bout 5 minutes into the game.

The game then really got into gear. A short corner was unusually fluffed by Coach Nirmal. This seemed to give confidence to the young and skilful Khalsa team. With their coach shouting from the touchlines, they got into gear. Utilising their left half, they repeated flicked the ball down the line to exploit openings. With time, they started to break into our D, and eventually earned themselves a short corner. Their well worked set play opened up a glorious chance to equalise and they did not disappoint by calmly sweeping the ball in. Another short corner resulted in yet another goal for Khalsa when despite the best attempts of Manish, the 2nd ball was won back by Khalsa at top D after their initial short corner had been parried out. With one slick movement, their attacker was on hand at the far post to tap in their second.

With Temasek missing their inspirational midfield player Zarir, it seemed as though we were lacking the extra gear to really trouble the Khalsa players. At half time, it seemed we had a mountain to climb cos chances had been minimal after Khalsa had got into their groove and hit back with 2 goals.

However, we refused to give up and the 2nd half started with Temasek starting to break into our opponent's half. Fatigue seemed to have crept in and Khalsa seemed somewhat jaded. We started to cause mayhem down their flanks and we were duly rewarded when Yang Wei managed to cut into their D from a through ball and cooly blasted past their keeper. 2-2. Game on. Special mention must also be given to Edwin who went on several jinking runs with one which almost earned him a goal only to see his reverse stick shot being saved by the Khalsa keeper.

With the equaliser, Temasek sensed the tide had changed and continued pressing forward. Coach Nirmal broke into their D once again and cooly looked up to set up a simple tap in for Edwin. Wad a moment. 2-1 down at half time to 3-2 up!! With the final whistle, Temasek once again proved victorious. Another difficult game next week but let us cherish this hard fought victory.

Special mentions:

Huzer- seems like he ran more in this game but just ask Jigar, he'll tell u how much he ran..
Coach Nirmal- announced his retirement after this season and had another solid game despite his hits being unusually off.
Robin- seems he always gives us another option when he's around.
Ang Mo kio Gerald- managed to keep his intregity against the 10 year old left winger from Khalsa and had an excellent game despite not playin for so long.
Edwin- Match sharpness seems to be improving as we saw from the numerous chances he created. Our 2 goal hero and thus wins the Man of the Match award. (NSwhoMotMa)
Azzo- his flick of the day was one of the highlights of the game cos everyone was angry that he had wasted one ball. Straight to the 2nd floor.
Ahmad- for getting a card for pointing his stick to the sky and stopping the flicked ball. Haha!

Special note

We will all take a moment to remember how Azzo, coming 5 mins late for the game celebrated with us at full time.. Then he realised that Edwin had scored 2 and Yang Wei one. That meant 3-2. Poor Azzo, he thought we had drawn 2-2 and that was why we were celebrating at the whistle. He had no clue we had scored before his arrival. He claimed he would have played differently if he had known the actual score. Thank god he did not...haha!!

Special tribute

Breaking News!! Derrick Wee teck chye has officially quit hockey. Let's take a moment to remember a player who blocked a certain Neil goal as well as scored against ACJC in 2004. A exciting winger, he will be missed. Citing his lost of passion for the game, we can only take inspiration from the gifted player who once awed us with his mazy runs down the flanks.. A truly sad day for Temasek Hockey. I repeat! He will be missed.. Okay can i have ur jersey back? Haha. Cos we need the jersey. HAHA!!

here we go

vs Khalsa
0800hrs. Everyone seemed to turn up late and it seems like complacency is starting to creep in.. it showed in our lethargic start n overall perfomance.. it was a vital win however in the sense that we got one over tpjc: our so called rivals.. it was a derby match of sorts considering our past history with the school as well as their coach..Welcomin another member to boost our team's chances.. our future looks bright. Wonder how our team would shape up if veera n neil were to join the team. Haha..exciting times.. Was thinkin of giving sarcastic remarks again..haha..sorry huzer..but u have to run more..haha.

After hearing coach singing how we played like shit, i really hope my personal performance improves.. i m losing the battles in midfield far too easily n am not playin hard enough. I remember veera saying u must improve with the rest of the team.. Haha..enough of personal comments.. our play as mentioned in huzer's comments was really terrible cos our passing was off and there was no gameplay at all.. our moves kept breaking down n we were pinned back by their direct attacks.. fortunately they dint score.. azzo's now infamous antics killed the game and doubled his goal tally..haha. This sunday's game will be our toughest to date as we play a young n fast team who can really move the ball. If we play like last week, it will be difficult.. however nevertheless, we must work hard and stop the mindset that we good enough.. cos without coach being the backbone of our performances, the scorelines would be very different indeed. We are still a long way from being a top team, so let's keep our heads down and silently get the results starting this sunday against a good team..

vs Nomads-TPJC (020706)

We won. 2-0. But don't let the scoreline fool you. It was an undeserved win if you look at the possession and chances created. We could have easily lost this game 4-2. But perhaps we're not giving ourselves enough credit. Lets look at the positives.

We were relatively clinical. Temasek did not create many chances, but we scored 2. However, we had a multitude of short corners that were kept out by the opponents. True our play was not as fluid as in previous games, but we were effective. Much like Italy. Ukraine seemed to have Italy on the ropes for most of the game, but Italy ultimately won 3 zip. I admit, our play was disjointed, we just couldn't seem to string more than 3 passes together and we lacked the movement we normally had. The team was suprisingly lethargic. We only played well in patches. In fact, TPJC looked like the team in 2nd place in the table, not us. And yet we won. This performance was nothing to be proud of. Our worst this season in fact. But never question a win. We can never expect to be firing on all cylinders all of the time. Fortunately for us, our blip came against a weaker team and we were not punished for it. But to get a result in our next 3 games, there has to be a vast improvement.

But far from being demoralised by our performance, i am actually quite heartened by it. A sign of a good team is that it can grind out results even when not playing at its best, and that was what we did. We forced our win. The team managed to carry the players who were not playing well, and that is something we must all be proud of.

Match Report:
We started off with exctly 11 players as Nirmal had not arrived, and with him were Zarir's socks and Yang Wei's shinpads. The opening exchanges were fairly even, and after the 3 subs had come on, we just about shaded it. Edwin, our newest recruit, looked lively upfront. At times though his rustiness showed; forgivable as this was his 1st game in 5 years. Midway through the first half, we won a short corner. Despite a slightly off target push by Huzer, Zarir controlled the ball and played it back to Nirmal who slotted it past the keeper.

Those who expected Temasek to be brought to life by this goal were sorely disappointed. TPJC started to gain momentum with sheer determination, yet we defended as if we had the game wrapped up. Perhaps we were overconfident as our defence has been rock solid, and this was perhaps their most demanding game to date. The defenders responded magnificently; Azri especially was immense.

The 2nd half was no different. TPJC pushed forward again and again, but to no avail. Temasek buckled down, and started to force free hits and mistakes by the opponents to slowly progress up the field. This resulted in top-D hits, long corners and finally, a series of short corners. Every corner was well defended, until the TPJC captain stuck out a leg to block a shot by Nirmal. The referee had no choice but to award a penalty flick, and we were all treated to the now familiar sight of Azri sprinting forward to claim it. The flick was a poor one by Azri, but he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to put us 2 ahead. Towards the end of the game, Temasek started to play more like we normally do. However we did still suffer a few scares from their counterattacks and TPJC was desperately unlucky not to score. The game ended in our favour, but TPJC could feel rightly aggrieved that their efforts did not show on the scoreline. Temasek though claimed the victory despite hardly ever coming out of 2nd gear.

Special mentions:

Azri - was a rock in defence for us today with numerous vital interceptions and tackles, capped with another goal. He rightfully admonished the midfielders for failing to screen the opponents, and those harsh words provoked a better performance from them in the latter part of the game. His faultless performance wins him the NSMotMA (you all should know what this is by now)
Jason - his performance on the left for once outshone that of his counterpart on the right. His tireless running could also not be faulted. Earned himself a green card for his troubles.
Edwin - Was enterprising and full of commitment even though his touch let him down sometimes. Should have scored when put through by Huzer, but was denied by an excellent save by the keeper.
FangHao - Intelligent runs into open spaces was let down by poor stopping of balls. Correct this, and he will start to have many opportunities on goal.
Prap - for being the first to arrive (she arrived when Huzer just woke up), and also for continuing the winning / clean sheet streak of the girl managers
Adila - for being our photographer, although there were more pictures of the ref than of the Temasek players.
Meihui - for coming down and making Mervyn *star player* happy
Manish - for doing the nation proud in his NDP rehearsal today
Derrick - for perfecting his vanishing act

Remember, the next 3 games will be the toughest of the season. It's make or break time now. Lets show them what Temasek is really made of. And by that I mean we must win. No pessimistic comments please Jigar.

Madness

It seems as though our season is getting crazier n crazier....from huzer scoring a brace(for the fact even having a shot) to scoring teng goals( i mean ten )...hahaha, the world is just going crazzy..n i mean rreally crrazzy.. although we must concede the fact that our play depends on long balls from defence bypassing the midfield..haha. haha. at least we dint collapse after conceding the 1st goal to indian association.. i mean nyp. haha. That was our toughest game so far. The hardest we had to fight for a win. I think it was actually a bit more competitive than the tornados game where they scored 2 early goals and then we dominated. This was a much closer game than the scoreline suggests. But in the end we prevailed 3-1.

Facing NYP brought back fond memories for Jigar, Veera and Huzer as they played with the bulk of the NYP team for Indian Association back in 2003. Thats like 3 years ago. Wah so long. So anyway, we knew how they were going to play and who their key players were. And most importantly who their weak links were.

Temasek was missing some personnel, but their replacements excelled when given the chance, giving the captain and coach some food for thought when we name our team for the next game. This shuffling of personnel did affect us at first as we got used to each other, and we took awhile to settle into the game. NYP started off strongly, and after 10 minutes or so, forced a short corner. The short corner should not have been called as the ball had bounced off Robin's stick and not his foot. NYP added salt to the wound by duly converting, the ball sneaking in Teng's near post.

We refused to take that lying down, and from then on, the ball was almost totally in our possession. NYP packed their defence, making it hard for us to penetrate. Consistently bad calls by the umpires did not help matters. We probed at their defence from all angles, and our persistence paid off when we won 3 short corners. The first, Nirmal missed to the right, the second to the left, and with the third, he brought us level. And that was how we entered the break.

Again, NYP started the stronger team, but this time we repelled the early pressure. Slowly we gained the upper hand, and eventually won a short corner, from which Nirmal scored again. We then proceeded to miss a stream of golden opportunities due to bad positioning from our forwards. NYP made life tough for the midfield as well by closing down quickly and not giving us any time on the ball.

We have built Temasek as an attacking team, and it was against our instincts to sit on the lead. We constantly threw men forward in search of the goal to put the game beyond doubt. However, these left gaping holes at the back as the attack-happy halves were not fast enough when tracking back. NYP exploited these gaps to great effect with their swift counter-attacks. One of these attacks earned them a top-D hit which they took quickly. With the defence still disorganised, the ball somehow ended at the back of the net and the referee blew for a goal. Nirmal argued the decision vehemently as he felt that there hadn't been a touch inside the D. The referees convened, and after what seemed like an eternity, they changed their decision and indicated a 16-yard hit to Temasek! (cue vehement protests from NYP instead) This time the decision was final, and Temasek restarted the game with renewed impetus. Eventually we forced another short corner after good play by Fang Hao. Nirmal strode forth to convert, in the process claiming his hat-trick and giving Temasek a two-goal cushion.

Somehow, we still did not want to defend our lead, and constantly had 6 men in attack, including Manish the left half! But by this time, NYP had run out of steam. Robin was assigned to mark their captain, and after that they ran out of ideas as well. The last few minutes passed by comfortably, the only incident being Robin's totally unneccesary green card, which put a blemish on our hitherto spotless disciplinary record.

This win was the sweetest by far as we had to fight hard for it, and with a depleted squad at that.

Special mentions:

Nirmal - His hat-trick was just reward for his all round play and his constant presence in all parts of the pitch. Was immense for us today. He thoroughly deserves the Nirmal Singh wins his own Man of the Match Award (NSwhoMotMA)
Ahmad - just gets better every game. Why last time don't want to train hard? Luckily NS woke you up. NS = National Service, not Nirmal Singh
Mervyn - for coming down despite JCTs. and maintaining his high standard of play
Shaik - for bluffing Huzer and raising his hopes only to cruelly deflate them
PQ - for coming despite having to book in later that night
Robin - have fun in Brunei
Huzer - happy last week of work
Veera - happy first week of work
All you schooling people - happy studying
Germany - happy winning the world cup
smoke pot - very happy

Top scorers list:

Nirmal - 4

Zarir - 3

Huzer - 2

Azri - 1

note: all are Raffles boys. Come on. Break the monopoly. PQ, Fang Hao and Robin all should have scored. And Yang Wei and Mervyn definitely owe us a few goals. And Jason. Cos he talk so much.

Remarks:

Congratulations to Teng for completing his first game for us, also his first in a couple of years. We would also like to welcome our final import, Edwin, to the team. Edwin is a former national centre-forward who would add some guile and experience to the attack. Our forwards can only learn from him. We now have a strong and experienced core to anchor the team, and a good mix of experience and youth.

-Huzer

next game

Details for the next game are as follows:

vs NYP

1730 hrs. Now to make sure we keep it up. We must keep winning, even without the action bedek yr2s next week. We had a fantastic game, improving on our previous one. We started off brightly and didn't allow SCC to settle down. This time, the early pressure paid off with a beautiful flowing goal. Jigar challenged for the ball in midfield and the ball broke to Huzer who quickly released Mervyn down the right. The rampaging Mervyn and Yangwei combined well, giving Mervyn ample time to choose his pass. He left the defence flat-footed when he squared to Huzer at top-D instead of hitting in towards goal. The unmarked Huzer, running up from midfield (about the only time he ran), gleefully accepted the pass and somehow managed to steer the ball past the keeper (a bit fluke, but skill nonetheless).

Despite the early lead, we did well by keeping up the pressure and got our due reward by winning a penalty flick. Nirmal politely demurred and offered the flick to others. Huzer started to walk to the D to take the flick, but was quickly brushed aside by Azri who was sprinting up from defence (the fastest he ran all day). Azri felt his moment of glory had arrived. He did not disappoint; his trademark sick flick beating the former national keeper.

Halftime arrived as a slight disappointment as it disrupted our rhythm and gave SCC time to regroup. We started the second half with a slight reshuffle, Nirmal taking his standard 2nd half position of centre forward. Our defence coped with his loss better than in the previous game, and this can only give us confidence for those matches where he will be on flight. We were unable to maintain our high tempo game in the second half due to the fast tiring midfield and a tactical change by SCC who waited to attack us on the break. We did manage to maintain the upper hand though, and forced a serious of short corners. What was initially a mistake by the short corner team turned into a beautiful team goal when the push from Huzer reached Jigar who fed Nirmal who in turn found Zarir who faked the keeper and squared to Huzer to tap into an empty goal.

SCC started to up their game after this, and Manish was finally called into action, making save after save and moving off his line quickly to snuff out any danger. Just as SCC seemed to be gaining momentum, Huzer won the ball in the opponents' half and went on an inspired run. He beat a few players but his resultant shot was tame. However, the placement of the shot meant the keeper could only parry the ball straight to Zarir, who finished with panache from 15 yards out, hitting the ball high over the prone keeper. SCC went for broke and only some determined defending and good goalkeeping prevented them from snatching a consolation goal.

(customary) Special mentions:

Manish - for playing his best ever game as keeper. His dominant performance in the second half proved enough to grab the Nirmal Singh Man of the Match Award (NSMotMA) from Huzer, who must surely be wondering what else he must do on top of his 2 goals and an assist to win this award. Temasek captain Huzer gamely commented that he was proud of Manish for winning the award, and that the performance of the team came before any individual honours
Huzer & Zarir - for good teamwork and understanding, and for the mutual assists. Also for Zarir being extra fit to cover up for Huzer's lack of match fitness
Terrence, Cheng Liang & Harven - for playing extremely well once they came on, especially considering their lack of match experience. Provided the legs for our fast tiring midfield
Raf - for continuing the girls' winning streak and for remembering to take photos (hint hint meihui)
Veera - for coming down to support us despite the jetlag
Yazid - for making a surprise appearance to help watch our bags

We would like to welcome Teng to the Temasek Hockey family. Teng is a veteran keeper who brings a wealth of experience to the team, and this could only be good for us. A shame that Manish, who was finding his feet as a keeper, has to become an outfield player. Again.

-Huzer

Temmmaasseekkkkk!!!

U all do remember how that famous Riise goal that he piledrived into the back of Barthez's net with the commentator screaming" Rrriiiiiii----Ssssseeeeeeeeeeeee!!..oh my goodness".. well now is the time to shout temasek whenever we score a goal!!! coz we have managed 7 goals in the last 2 games... which is basically our best games for goals ratio like ever!! and to top it all off... we played good, fluid and simple hockey....

i guess in a way.. our league game began agst ova.. the earlier friendly vs tornadoes was just a friendly.. haha.. come on even Man U loses games in the first league game of the season to chelsea..

U know what.. Man of the match.. i was tryin very hard not to say it but could not help it.. coz i think this was one of my best games as a keeper.. i captained the goal and ruled the defence.. played the ball when i had to.. saved the ball when i absolutely had to.. and ultimately put it in a performance that earned me the Nirmal Singh Man of The Match award..."applause"...

some how.. i feel we are goin places.. its like we are slowly but surely pressin on the accelerator pedal and movin forward with every game.. the next major obstacle is not the.. distance from home to ccab.. but the distance from the centre line to the goal line of the opponents goal.. coz well my goal line is sealed and secured.. no one dare enter..

well.. Temasek guys and everyone who had to do with temasek hockey set-up.. these four goals is for all four of our coaches that helped us from the beginnin along the way..kadir, dj, singham, coach z.. And the clean sheet is for coach Nirmal Singh..He marshalled the defence without a single flaw.. aided by the well capable keeper ... anyway.. Keep it going guys..

p.s. tip for aspiring hockey keepers.. play soccer first and then join hockey.. it helps..

-Manish da Man

notificationz

Next game:

vs SCC

1500 hrs. It's been a long time coming and finally we have done it. Hopefully, this will give us the confidence to improve our gameplay and aspire to achieve victory in the upcoming games as well. With added firepower,we have finally won. Haha. Finally after 4 years, i could really shake the opponents hands after the game and say it truly was a good game. Most of the time, i would be cursing and swearing on the inside. Haha.. Jokes aside, it was a much improved display against ova although some might say the opponent was rusty and that played a part in the final outcome as well. Nonetheless, as they say, 3 points is 3 points. Finally we r no longer the bottom team in the league table. Although the shf website seems to hate us as they still have not updated the table..haha. Next up we have scc this sunday in the sweltering heat at 3pm. Hope this is not a factor in deciding the type of game we play.
Personally i hope to improve on my play as it seems like being in ns seems to worsen your physical fitness. Have to run more..haha n help my defence..haha. Personal moments here.. it seemed like the last game i was playin a forward cos i was so high up the field.. Our defence was impregnable while coach was present but once he switched positons, it seemed like we became shaky again. Our forwards really need to take the ball into the d n shoot much earlier. It seems like we always delay n try to find the perfect position b4 we pull the trigger. We have to exploit any openings. There has been many such instances where we play so well but lose the ball too cheaply in the final third of the pitch cos we rush our play. There is no hold up play or respite. It seems like we want to break forward and surge thru at every opportunity. We need to pass the ball around n make our off the ball movement more obvious cos we still look too rigid in our play. Cant wait for this weekend's game... we must achieve 4th place..haha. Azri's n my dream...hopefully there wont be keeper drama like the last game.. read my lips manish..haha

Jigar

vs OVA (110606)

The boys in green have finally done it! We won our first ever game as a club. And truth be told, the 3-0 scoreline was an injustice to us as it could have easily been double that. But lets not detract from our performance.

This was our first morning game, and coming in the first weekend of the world cup, there was a genuine fear that some people would not be able to make it / wake up in time. Unfortunately, that was proven true, and we found ourselves without a 'keeper an hour before the match started. After some frantic and intense negotiation, we managed to secure the release of Muhammad Zafir on loan from his mother for the duration of the game. This boost to our morale was further supplemented by the fact that the OVA keeper was late for the game, and they had to play the first 2 minutes with a kicking back.

We started at a high tempo, and conjured our first opportunity on goal within the first 2 minutes, with PQ missing the ball by a whisker. A very thick whisker. That set the tone for the rest of the half, with Temasek in almost total dominance but not a single goal to show for it. We had some intricate play on the right flank and a few nice switches to the left. Yet incursions into the opposition D were few and far between.

Entering the half-time break, there was a genuine concern that Temasek would come up short once again. A rollicking by the effervescent Coach Nirmal ensured we would push on in the second half. We knew the attack had to start converting its chances. Jigar and Huzer also had to buck up after an unusually subdued performance from the midfield duo.

We started the second half picking up right where we left. Pouring forward every single time we had possession, the opposition was swamped by an irrepresible tide of green. Haha.. swamp and green. The irony. So back to topic, a short corner was won early in the half, and Nirmal imperiously strode forth to convert it with ease. More good play followed, with Zarir having a good shot from top-D stick-saved by the keeper when it looked like nothing but a goal. Zarir did get his just reward in due course, tapping in after some determined play by Robin and Yang Wei, and scoring a short corner via a deflection of a defender. Perhaps feeling certain of victory, Temasek took its foot off the pedal, and almost paid the with OVA finishing the stronger team, winning a few short corners and forcing a save (finally) from Zafir.

Temasek looked good in possession, moving forward at every opportunity and defending in numbers too. However, we still looked a bit rushed when attacking. We must learn to be a little more patient and to move the ball around a little bit more, before moving in for the kill. Still, it was a well-deserved win a long time in coming, and we should savour this moment and build on it.

Special mentions:

Zafir's Mum - for letting him come to make 1 save
Zafir - for making the effort to come down and help us out. And saving me from playing keeper
Nirmal - for injecting confidence into the defence, allowing the midfield to pour forward to and help the attack
Zarir - Yet again the focal point of our play, albeit this time from a more advanced position. Thus he did not influence play as much as against the Tornados, but gave us a finishing touch instead. He wins the Nirmal Singh Man of the Match Award (NSMotMA)
Mervyn - a solid performance at left half, providing us with unexpected attacking impetus from what should be our weaker side
Terence - for being the only Yr1 to make it so far, and for putting in a committed display when called upon. Did not lack the confidence to take a player on. Perhaps a "Theo Walcott" for us?

And guys / girls. C'mon, don't be shy. Leave a comment or two, especially if you can't make it. A tagboard will be appearing on these premises soon.

-Huzer
The start of a start

After readin huzer's post, i was laughin my socks off and wanted to get into the act as well. hopefully this is not just initial enthusiasm. Personally for me, this love affair with temasek hockey is strange considerin my batch no longer study in the school but have still managed to keep in contact. unlike veera's n huzer's batch..haha. no more rayner, john, commando wee liong, wooden stick malaysian pro chin ling. wadever his name la..haha. memories are still strong. from singam to mr bala to coach nirmal, kadir n dalgit to that weird man who came down and told us stories of how he played hockey previously n wanted to coach us when he was free. haha. remember neil gettin scolded n being branded as a attitude player..haha. Hope neil n yazid join us next season..haha. hopefully they read this.. it seems like as though every batch that joins temasek hockey has their own story.. haha.
Anyway, our game against tornadoes was ironic in the sense that some of us actually trained with them n were invited to join them.. the game was frustratin in the sense that we played so much better yet conceded 2 stupid goals.. if only the triple shot we had against them had gone in, then perhaps we could have nicked it. Haha..hopefully we score soon n listen to this whoever that is readin this...let's do the peter crouch dance if we score..haha. that will be cool. The upcoming game against ova should be another cracker.. mornin game so maybe different luck.. derrick injured his arm..god knows how..so he'll be out for a week n will miss this game.. so we need another winger.. maybe we can take inspiration from the world cup..

Jigar

vs Tornados (040606)

I hate losing, and the last game was no different. I felt a loss was harsh on us, but we can't expect to win if we don't create chances. But there were many positives that could be drawn from the game. Mainly our performance in the second half. It was very cohesive and fluid, but unfortunately we lacked the penetration upfront. This is something we'll have to work on in our later games.

Special mentions (so special everyone is mentioned):

Ahmad - congrats on completing your first full game.. shag right?
Zarir - for taking control of the game and looking cool while playing the game.. He wins the Nirmal Singh Man of the Match Award (NSMotMA)
Mervyn & Jigar - who had solid games in midfield, combining well with the wings, and together with Zarir won the Nirmal Singh Midfield of the Match Award (NSMotMA)
Manish - redeeming himself by saving the deflection/lob from top-D
Sex - for making some good short-corner run-outs. Actually I wanted to call him Yi Heng, but putting Sex will increase our hits by people looking for porn on google (i.e. Derrick, Yangwei and Jason).
Azri - for a wonderful Oscar-worthy dive (again)
The whole team - for shouting in unison when the Tornados' long corner was rising
Rafidah - for being the team photographer.. though please note that no "team photograph" was taken
Huzer - for actually coming on time, winning the coin toss (at least we won something) and playing through terrible searing pain for the sake of the team.. his sacrifice was inspiring not to say the least.
Veera - for not being able to play the game but able to play after the game, and for going to Germany during the World Cup but not watching football.
Yr1s - for being so tired after the bbq at Huzer's house they couldn't make it
Zafir - for studying

All of those who can't make it for the next game, please leave a comment in the previous post. Cos we need to know if we'll have at least 11 players. Cos we want to win. Yup.

-Huzer

Home of Announcements

G'day all. This is where we'd be posting the fixtures, match reports, pictures etc of the Temasek Hockey Alumni team.

As you should know by now, we're playing in SHF Div 3 Men's tournament.

Our first game was on 040606 against Tornados. We lost 2-0 through shotcorners. Though we had no substitues (only 11 were present) the guys pesevered and came close to scoring thrice, only to lose out in finishing.

Both goals were scored in the 1st half. We came back strongly in the 2nd half and put Tornados under relentless pressure. Unfortunately, we did not take our chances and paid for it. For a team that had played together for the first time, we did exeptionally well. Temasek Hockey can only improve from the past.

NEXT FIXTURE:

Sunday 11 June 06

Temasek vs OVA

0930hrs @ CCAB (meet 1 hour in earlier)

-Please refer to this blog for all information regarding the fixtures and what not... Kindly contact Huzer (91860868) or post a comment in this blog as to inform us of your attendance for the next fixture atleast 48hrs in advance.
